Integrating Okra Framework with MVVM Light

Aug 24, 2012 at 5:25 PM

I read in stack overflow that i can use Okra framework along with MVVMLight. In my application i am using MVVMLight as design framework. I am using this method for "http://dotnetbyexample.blogspot.in/2012/06/navigationservice-for-winrt.html" for navigating between pages. But the major issue i am facing is state handling. The same someone mentioned in previous thread. So my question is by using my existing method is it possible to implement state handling through your framework. If you tried such things, please share some idea about this. I think many of them are facing similar issues. Anyways congrats for you effort.

rkshnair,

I haven't tested using the Okra App Framework with MVVMLight, however Okra does not place any requirements on the classes used for view-models so you should be able to use any of these that derive from MVVMLight base classes. The main change you would have to make is to use the Okra navigation manager rather than the standard MVVMLight support. If you read the blog post at http://andyonwpf.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/navigation-in-cocoon-mvvm-for-metro.html and subsequent posts then you should get a good idea how to use the Okra navigation framework. The post at http://andyonwpf.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/cocoon-navigation-making-your-app.html shows how Okra supports state handling which would be of particular interest.

Let me know how you get on with this. A sample app that demonstrates the Okra-MVVMLight combination is a good suggestion and I'll look into it in the future.
