Okra Cookbook Tutorial

As part of the developer documentation for Windows 8 development Microsoft has released a hands-on lab titled Contoso Cookbook (available here) showing how to create a realistic Windows Store application. Here I will describe how to create the same application in C# using the MVVM pattern and the Okra App Framework. This tutorial has been designed to follow the steps outlined in the Contoso Cookbook hands-on lab so you can compare this with the MVVM approach used by the Okra Cookbook tutorial.

Important Information

To follow this tutorial you will require Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 (including the Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8 edition).

Your use of the materials in this tutorial and any associated files are governed by the terms of the Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL) (note that this is the same license as the Contoso Cookbook hands-on labs).

Important note about the recipies: Please be aware that the recipes supplied as data for this application are not real recipes. They are intended only to demonstrate the handling and presentation of data in a Windows Store app. The ingredients, instructions, and other details are fictitious, so please do not attempt to actually prepare any of the recipes described in Okra Cookbook.
